Camp-In

“Camp-In” was created in the summer of 2008 as a once-a-year inpatient activity.  We have since grown to be a two-day program held three times a year. "Camp-In"  is an extension of Camp Rainbow, originally created  to provide a day-camp experience for the inpatient children, as well as those whose illness or course of treatment may have caused them to miss out on attending the June program at Babler.

“Camp-In” is held at 3 locations: St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Cardinal Glennon Hospital, and Cardinal Kids Cancer Center at St. John's Hospital. We bring all of the typical "camping" activities into the hospital, such as arts and crafts, nature, music and games. This program is run by our volunteer camp staff, parents, and selected hospital staff. If siblings happen to be visiting, they are always welcome to join in the fun.  Every participant receives a camp bag filled with goodies and Camp Rainbow memorabilia.

At its inception, "Camp-In" was held on the Oncology floor of each of the participating hospitals.  In 2010, the program was expanded to serve patients in the outpatient clinic as well.  This has allowed us to not only serve more children, but also to increase awareness of our Camp Rainbow programs and to educate parents on the benefits of what we offer.
